Keynote is on June 5th. Rumours suggest an Echo-like Siri smart speaker (meh), an almost bezel-less 10.5-inch iPad Pro, refreshed MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and maybe even MacBook Airs. We can also expect a preview of iOS 11 and MacOS 10.13.

Any wishes/predictions? Mine would be a redesigned iTunes, which Apple seemed to hint might be in the works. They recently rebranded iTunes Podcasts as Apple Podcasts suggesting there may be some movement on this.

It will be interesting to see what if anything they do with the MacBook Air.

They'll need something special to keep me on board. I ditched iTunes after Apple Music mismatched and lost some rare tracks in my collection when it first came out and I'm already committed to not having an iPhone when my 6 Plus needs replacing. My current gripes are that handoff seems to have developed a life of it's own after working great initially and iMacs have become really expensive, although after 20 years of Mac use they probably have me for life there. It's been a while since we had a 'wow' event, and I'm not expecting this to be one. I'll still be watching with hope though :-)

Was looking at getting a 12.9" iPad Pro this weekend but the finding it hard to locate one plus with WWDC on Monday do you think:
    A) they're going to release a new 12.9" version?
    B) would I be mad to get one this weekend?

    Appreciate someone's opinion :)

Finally, can follow one of these things live rather than reading about it afterwards.

Keynote starts at 6pm Irish time and can be live streamed here.

Seems Apple may be releasing some kind of file management app for iOS.

High Sierra (?!). Safari autoblocking videos. Apple File System - APFS.

    Glad I waited!

High Sierra looks great. New filesystem is a big deal and long overdue. It was a relief to see Apple hadn't forgotten about Photos. The editing interface is terrible in the current version, so glad to see them addressing this. The Safari improvements are welcome too - autoplay video ads are very annoying.

On the iOS front, iPad Pro is very tempting, especially with the improved multitasking and drag and drop coming in iOS 11. And - hell finally froze over - a Files app! The new Control Centre looks so much better. I hope they did something about that ugly volume hud. Maybe someone with the beta can confirm?

Incremental updates to Macbook and Macbook Pros are welcome, iMacs are pretty underpowered in terms of graphical horsepower (as always) and I'll believe the iMac Pro when I see it.

I've been holding off on replacing my 2011 MBP but still finding it hard to decide. I have zero interest in the touch bar, but the machine it's in is the best of the lot! I don't do a lot of heavy lifting with my laptop anymore, perhaps I should just go full on portable and get a Macbook.

Before anyone gets excited about the iMac Pro, the RAM is not user replaceable.

Hasn't been replaceable in any of the last few iMac models afaik.

It's replaceable on the 5k Retina model.

The insane iMac pro with up to 18 cores, what does that mean - it's very good for...?

3D animation, raw video editing, CAD, gaming development. Think you can do any of this on a regular high-end iMac, just much slower. iMac Pro would be serious overkill for most of us.

If you don't know why you'd want a iMac Pro then you probably don't need one.

It's obvious this was meant to be the replacement for the Mac Pro before Apple did a 180 on it. Since the iMac Pro now exists it paves the way for a truly modular Mac Pro. Imagine we might be able to buy a barebones Mac Pro stick your own cards and drives into. Just like the good old cheese grater days :)

It would appear that the RAM (and even the CPU!) in the new iMacs is removable (not soldered like in previous models) but not user-upgradable, i.e. there's no hatches on the outside. Opening up the machine will void your warranty, so buying the default configuration and installing the extra RAM yourself isn't an option, but at least there's a way of upgrading down the road when the warranty has expired.

No doubt some famous Youtuber will do a side-by-side comparison between a standard iMac and a Pro, running a project as a test.

    Now, what on earth..?

Off-topic, but am I the only one who who finds the Today and Notifications buttons in Notification Centre confusing? I'm always clicking the wrong one. I guess they are meant to be like tabs, greyed out when not active, but they look more like pressed buttons.
