2 boxes from 2 cables

    Hey guys,

So I recently switched to Freesat (Humax HDR-1100s) and it's a great piece of kit :) Does everything the Sky HD box does for zero monthly cost.

The problem is those rare occasions when I'll want to watch a match on Eir/BT Sports which I get free as an Eir fibre customer. For that I was thinking of getting a Sky Multiroom box (smaller than the standard version) and pair my old Sky card to it.

But.. can I reliably split the feed from one of the 2 cables coming in to feed one of the Humax ports and the Sky Multiroom box? If so, how much and where to get what I need? Only one box will be in use at a time.

Also, is it a simple job to pair a soon-to-be-expired Sky card to a new box or will I need to waste more cash on hold with Sky's premium support number?

    Cheers :)

There's your problem, even if you're not watching the Sky box it has to be powered up and connected all of the time or the card will lose its authorisation.

I only use it for the MotoGP races and I find that it needs to be tuned to one of the Eir Sports channels before I put it into standby to be sure of it.

Possibly the Eirsport player might be a solution?

Well I can leave the box in standby and turn it on every so often.. not a big issue there.

    Would rather avoid players.

But you can't have two boxes connected to one cable and have both powered up.

I have not had that happen.
My sky box is switched off (at the power socket) each night, and some days is not powered on at all, and it has never lost its authorisation that I have noticed.
Maybe it re-authorises at each boot for all I know, but it has never refused to display the eir sports channels.
