2010 A6 LeMans - Changing the alloys

Hey all,

So my 2010 A6 LeMans came with RS4 19" Alloys like so...



The problem is that with the mileage I do, they're not really practical (in terms of cost or comfort) so I'm looking to change them for 17" equivalents.. either the same style or something similar.

But how do I know what'll fit? I did get the garage I bought it from to try to fit a set of 17's but they wouldn't fit and needed spacers (which they never got), but I want to try and get this sorted if possible.

I know going up sizes is normally the thing, but what about the other way? Has anyone done this on this car with those alloys?

The key figure you need to look at there is the offset or ET, the lower that is the more the wheels will stick out e.g OEM ET is 42 a set of wheels with an ET of 32 will stick out 10mm further, a set with an ET of 52 will sit 10 mm further in - you have a good bit of wiggle room each way but too much in either direction and the will look totally wrong on the car or foul on the calipers and not fit without spacers as you found out.

Your best bet is buying a second hand OEM wheels in good nick, one of the nicest 17" OEM wheels for the A4/A6 is the 'sport' alloy

OK, so if I look for an OEM set with an ET of 42, it should be fine? Something like these...

Would there be any issues of clearance for calipers?
