Can I drive on my 17th Birthday

    Hi guys I have my theory test next Thursday And I'll be 17 in October I was wondering if it's possible to drive on my 17th birthday or do I have to wait until I recive my Learner Permit in the post , thanks

    You need the learner permit, no permit no drive.

    yes , if that day is one of the days the NDLS centre is open, be aware that from the middle of June, you now need a public service card , as this is the only acceptable proof of identity . You have to physically go to an NDLS centre

    you also need other documents as outlined on the NDLS site

    Surely that's making assumptions. You don't know of his situation. All he's asking is it possible to drive if theory test etc is passed In advance of his birthday.

    I am almost sure it was possible as I think my brother did it. Having said that, that was a few years ago and licenses have since changed etc

    NDLS dont hand the permit over the counter though

    The earliest you can apply for a car learner permit is on the day of your 17th birthday (you can get a tractor permit at 16). NDLS will not accept your application for a car permit before that date. As it takes 7-10 days to get the permit, you will not be able to drive on your birthday ( at least legally). NDLS are quite clear on this in relation to 1st time permits.
