A couple of weeks ago I noticed my sons teeth looked a funny colour, since then I noticed a hole in two of his back teeth, brought him to the dentist and they done an X-ray said yes 2 holes and the decay has spread to 2 other teeth behind the Ines with the holes and they saw decay in 4 teeth on top too they want to put silver caps on 8 teeth. I lm gutted as I give my kids a good healthy diet with barely any juice and minimal treats. Teeth brushed twice a day , what am I doing wrong

Tooth decay is multi factorial. You are obviously a concerned parent , make sure you get the right advice from a dental professional and take it on board. It really boils down to controlling your kids level of plaque , use of fluoride containing products, oral hygiene , prevention and treatment plan.

I'll give some advice but really ask your dentist for specific information regarding your case.

    Diet
Maybe the diet isn't as good as you think it is? Parents often have misconceptions about foods and drinks which are actually high in sugar.
Examine your child's diet. It is ok to drink water any time. Limit other drinks such as cordials to meal times. Reduce consumption of foods and beverages with added sugars. Avoid fizzy drinks etc.
    Watch for hidden sugars.
More important still is the frequency of consumption. At your child's age their diet will largely depend on what your give them.
Limit to 3 meals a day. Avoid snacking in between meals. Don't eat last thing before bed.

    Oral hygiene
You say you brush your kids teeth twice a day.
Are you brushing them for at least 2 minutes? Are you brushing all the surfaces? Are you using the right type of tooth brush?
Are you rinsing after brushing ? Stop if you are.
If your kid is supervised and able to spit out then ensure you are using a tooth paste with 1450 ppm fluoride.
Don't buy kids tooth pastes which aren't as effective.
Ask your dentist about using a fluoride mouth wash in between brushing.
    Floss your kids teeth regularly.

With aggressive decay like this ask your dentist about fluoride varnishes etc for children at high risk of decay. Fissure sealants are part of a prevention plan.
In the future, attend your dentist regularly and prevent instead of cure!

My dentist told me how his son had tooth decay at the back of a front tooth.

When he was talking to a colleague he mentioned it and that he was surprised as the son ate no sweets and liked raisons.... Mystery solved. He ate raisins every morning in the car to school and they stuck to his tooth and were the cause of the decay.

Raisins are also high in sugar. Many people think they are a healthy option..
Dried fruits have what are called extrinsic sugars which cause more decay than the sugars in non- dried fruit.
That also goes for juices, juice concentrates, pulps , honey etc..
