Is it possible on Sat Navs to have satelite view as well as map view?

I hav'nt used a sat nav but i am thinking of getting one for my holiday in France this summer. I currently use my iPhone's maps here as a satnav. I like the option of having either map view or satelite view, though i do much prefer using the satelite option more. Is it possible to do this on sat navs? I've only ever seen…

I've only ever seen the 'map' view on them in adds or in stores. I'm thinking of getting a Garmin.
