What weed is this

    Hi folks, new lawn and this bad boy is sprouting .. The weed appears to spread and the roots are concerning, its a greenery purple colour

    Any ideas what it is and can it be killed in due course ??

    Obviously no photo but I wouldn't get too worried until you've mowed the lawn a good few times.
    Tilling the soil brings up lots of dormant seeds that sprout, most just don't like repeated mowing.

    For those that do survive there are "weed n feed" type products that work well, just make sure that the lawn is mature enough, many or most products require the lawn to be a year old at least to prevent damaging newly planted grass.
