Balaclava and gloves stops people from being ID'ed. Also, not having accomplices that could spill the beans.

Mud covering the plates is unfortunate.

Some of it actually makes it so much easier to cover your arse, get a mate to drive your car to xyz and have plate recorded, get mate to use your ATM card at xyz while you are somewhere else.

But then you have to kill your mate to cover your tracks.

There are well ahead of you on that, my husband tried to renew my car insurance for me but they would not complete until they talked to me and checked who I was and that I was aware that the insurance was in my name.

In Victorian times you'd have to hear a shriek of "I have been most cruelly done to death" and catch the murderer over the maid with a bloody knife to make a murder charge stick.

Technology is only making it easier to catch incredibly dumb criminals! :D

Technology is also making it easier for smarter criminals to frustrate the efforts of the authorities though unfortunately...

Pfft. Burglars are imbeciles. Stealing consumer rubbish they then have to fence for peanuts. Proper crooks just hack the bank and transfer funds. Code has no cctv. The banks are too embarrassed to even admit it -the perfect crime.

a spray of laquer is more effective, plus the inhabitants of a squad car can read it and it does not attract their attention similar to a mud covered one

A cashless society would definitely make it more difficult for criminals
