So this has just hit the news. Apparently it was a First Communion meal.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) and Food Safety Authority have launched a joint investigation into a suspected outbreak of food poisoning following the death of a Dublin mother in her 50s at the weekend.

The kitchens of a pub in north Dublin have also been shut down by the HSE pending an investigation into the suspected salmonella outbreak.

It is understood a number of people were taken ill after a private party and treated in hospital for salmonella poisoning.

    Irish Independent

    Irish Mirror

The only news source reporting the venue is "The Journal".

The Irish Times are not even reporting on it.

What really gets me is the non mention of the venue, presumably in the interests of not being sued.

Journalists have long forgotten the whole idea that there might be a public interest angle.

I suspect it's not named because it has not been definitively proved yet and is circumstantial and the defamation / loss of earnings claim would be enormous if they were exonerated.

Or in other words their right to a good name trumps your right to be a nosy gossip

He or she is hardly a nosey gossip. This forum is a platform to discuss matters such as thiS. Wind your neck in.

It would have been quite easy to figure out who it was anyway, the FSAI publish all closures daily on a PDF document on their website. Took two minutes to google which venue it was earlier on today when news broke. Then there's the fact that the venue itself are posting about the closure on FB.

Yeah, googled that fsai pdf, cheers.

Makes for interesting reading. Either they're better at recording their activists, or they've really upped their game in recent times.

A nosy gossip  Well I never.

It is understood a number of people were taken ill after a private party and treated in hospital for salmonella poisoning.

So what about the rights of others that may have been affected ? Does that trump nosiness ?

As I understand it, it may not have been confined to just that one venue as it appears that it was an outside catering company that provided the food.
