    Hi all.

Please understand i'm just looking for advice on the topic and not on bad parenting ext ext as this is only a thought at the moment.

I'd like your opinions on taking kids out of School for holidays during the School term. I thinking the 2 weeks prior to the February mid term meaning 3 weeks all together.

My Wife is not Irish so 3 weeks for her to head home is the only real way to go. During April mid term, temperatures rise to 40+ degrees where my Wife is from so i'm think it's too hot for my kids. During July and August its the rainy season that's not much fun to holiday in either.

My 2 Kids will be in Junior infants and preschool so 3 and 5 years of age. I've seen people saying that some teachers will try give you some work to do in advance and while on holidays. This is not about saving money on flights due to prices rising during School holiday periods or anything like that. Is simply about going at a time that suits my kids.

Most schools are very understanding especially where one parent is from another country. I would suggest giving the school as much notice as possible - Same goes for the teacher. They will advise you what work you need to cover whilst away. I have always found that schools support the family as a whole not just the kids that are going to their school and they will already know your wife is living away from home.

Thanks for the reply and advice.
I should also have added that my kids, well my Daughter anyway as my Son has yet to attend, has not missed days during her preschool year and is already at a good level at a lot of her basic skills at this age.

I'm a teacher and I consider family activities like that way more important than school, provided the family is a calm and nurturing one and not a bunch of p!ssheads off to Mallorca for two weeks to go clubbing.

I can assure you it will not be piss up style holiday. Temples, jungles, beaches and visiting family along with zoos and water parks ext ext. the kind of holiday I'd never imagine when I was a kid. I was planning on letting the teacher know when I meet them in June if we go through with it.

No point in telling a teacher in June s/he may not have that class next year and even if they do, I'd wait until September. As a general rule, holidays in term time can disrupt the class, but in a case such as yours, I think most schools would not be opposed to you going.
