Recently Married, tax credits?

    Hi guys,

My wife and I recently got married, and have moved back to Ireland after some time away.

I've heard people mention an IT2 form or something for redistributing tax credits, but things are predictably opaque around it.

Can anyone advise how this actually works?

To help get a sense of things, my salary would be €65,000 , my wife's €40,000

    Thanks a million.

If you ring Revenue they're usually very helpful - I had a similar query on allocating credits when our salaries weren't the same and the person on the phone was able to split them for me in the most tax efficient way.

At the moment based on your salaries, there's no additional benefits to you. It's always better to opt for joint assessment anyway opting for your credits and rate band to be split 50/50. You'll need to complete the it2 for that.
