A Thread For Hope

    I have children and grandchildren.
The world has changed so much since I first became a mother till now that I am a grandmother to 3.
It seems to be bad news all the time.
Or negative commentary about good news.
I need to feel some hope for my grandchildren, two of whom are less than 1 year old.

Three things that make me hopeful
    1. My grandson has reading difficulties but is still positive about school and education in the future. School to be a better place for people with difficulties. .
    2. The same grandson has made me, his mother and 3 other households much more aware of recycling. Environmental awareness is good. The world will be better because of this.
    3. My grandson is friends with people of many races and backgrounds and even one child with a disability. I was nervous of some disabled people at his age. The respect and acceptance he shows without even thinking makes me really happy.

The way ordinary people reacted in Manchester last night.
The kindness and the courage and the generosity just poured out.
Human beings are 99.9% love and decency and courageous, despite everything.
Have hope that love will conquer hate.

My kids are 4 and 7 and theyve dealt with a fair bit of stuff so far in their little lives...theyre resilience amazes me and the little time i get to spend with them makes my life worth living.
The hope they give me,through their attitude is more than enough for me to feel positive about the future, regardless of the bad news that surrounds us these days.

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.
    -Marcus Aurelius

But in all seriousness we're screwed the future belongs to the machines.

The taxi drivers who gave free rides the people who gave rooms the fact that the blood bank had to tell people to stop donating blood as they had too much.

The fact so many paramedics where st johns ambulance volunteers who wanted to help.

The fact that Manchester is made of glue and grit. And they have all the world's support.

Apparently there was this Jesus chap about 2000 years ago - said a lot of stuff about how theres great craic to be had after earth.

Wee bit of controversy around what he's supposed to have said, or whether he existed, or whether he was just mashed when he said it.

But personally I find that if you combine him, santa, and fine gael's election promises you should be set hope wise.

    now go get em tiger.

I'm hopeful we'll have socialism in my lifetime.

It is the safest time in history.

    That was a decade ago.

I can think of plenty of reasons why the future in Europe and the west will be worse but why spoil a hopeful thread.

I'm thankful that the only thing I could really complain about today was the heat. It's great to get good weather though. We bitch about the weather so much in this country no matter what way it is. It's never the way we want it. It's too hot/too cold but it gives us a constant topic of conversation. I love my country no matter what happens in it.

You're right though. In this country it's like 'soft day isn't it' etc, it's all very laid back. I think we have few troubles compared to most of the world.

I hope that religions of all types phase out. They are all a load of tripe. The cause of many atrocities and an easy cop out to stand behind.

I'm hopeful that because people are kind and generous and courageous, we will banish the evil that is socialism, forever.

I am currently raising money for a local cancer support group and I cannot believe people's generosity.
My mother recently went through, and thankfully came out the other side of, a long slog of stage 4 ovarian cancer which resulted in a 6 hour emergency surgery and 5 months of weekly chemo sessions - and all at age 70. It gave me hope, inspiration and perspective to the good things in life along the charity people have shown me in their kindness and now donations has just been so powerful. It has certainly given me glimmers of hope for humankind through much darkness and fear.
    :)

Look through history, one could argue we never had it as good.

Media making news instant makes things appear worse, but the reality is it is not any worse than before.

Western Europe is going through it's longest period of peace, and despite random terrorist attacks, we live in one of the most peaceful periods in this continent's history.
