Hi I got a good car insurance quote from the AA however it does not include Breakdown assistance this is €84 extra and with that its still an ok deal. However are there other companies that offer breakdown assistance separately so I can compare the price?

As it's a specialist policy , then not all the staff know it exist..better sent refesher email around later

If u are an AXA customer the cover for Ireland & Uk is optional at €25 (sometimes free, T&C apply) and extra €40-45 for Euro Rescue upgrade

I have wondered if you have insurance with breakdown included and you have the need to use that service during the course of the policy, is it considered the same as having made a claim on your policy in the same way as windscreen or damage to the car and noted accordingly?

no - not counted as a claim

MIs claims do breakdown for €20approx or €30 with homestart - seperate policy. Done through brokers.(they may add fee on top)

Claim under an optional benefit has no effect on NCB

Glass breakage is noted but no effective against NCB

Motor rescue usage is not recorded on a policy file.

with regards the glass breakage - i've noticed it has no effect on bonus but some companies now will refuse to quote if you have 2 or more windscreen breakages in last few years.

Sorry for stealing the OP question

Technically if both windows claims cost as much as a policy renewal does then insurers can choose to put restriction in place.
Normally a claim for glass is once every 5 yrs but some people 'are magnets for glass claims for 1 reason or other' so I can't blame insurers to be cautious , malicious damage can start then and acc-damage claims start then .
