I have lambs that are 5 - 7 weeks old and was thinking about creep feeding to get them away earlier this year , as soon as they are weaned they will cost me 2.60 per hd/month, they will have plenty of grass but only of average quality , will probably be to strong in parts and a bit dirty with weeds in other parts , The lambs are llyen x suffolk mostly and some more pure llyen but they look fairly good so far, My question is how much are they likely to eat between now and slaughter time and any other pros and cons , I normally only feed the last 20 -30 % of lambs from november on but this year i need to get them away earlier for lots of different reasons , I would be happy if i thought i could get the price of the meal back with no profit for the extra work feeding etc but im not sure i will and i know letting them come in their own time on grass only even at 2.60 per hd/mth would be the more efficient option but as i say could really do with having them gone early this year , also the lambs a very uniform bunch with 80% lambed in 13 days. Thanks in advance .
