Cancelled a single direct debit occurrence or the entire agreement?

Legal yes, but can you ask for your bank to refund it without question, yes also! Of course that does nothing to discharge your debt though.

I'm not sure, it's in the banks online system and I clicked on the cancel button there, my understanding was that's it the company is not authorized to charge my account - also notified the company the money should/did go to.

That's fine, I am aware of it, we have a dispute with the company, which they ignore, therefore I want this to be resolved first before they will authorized to charge my account again - at least I thought.

You should contact your bank and explain to them that you have a concern that the company may attempt to initiate the direct debit mandate again but that you wish to ensure that it cannot do so.

The bank should be monitor your account so that this cannot happen.

If you like, this thread can be transferred to the Banking forum, where you may get further suggestions/explanations.

    Probably not a bad idea!

Thanks Fred, I believed so, but now the company overcharged me - which is primarily the reason why I'm so annoyed with it. I've canceled the service and there is some outstanding payment - which fair enough, I wouldn't mind if they did take what's theirs but no more than that!
