Into the 3rd year with my motor and am considering a change. Current car is a 10 year old 3 series. What do boards recommend based on the following:

    -Budget E8,000..ish
    -Car as new as possible
-Preference for a diesel but petrol considered
-Plenty slow city driving but longer stretches up to twice a week, minimum 100km each way
-4 Doors, preference for a saloon
    -Reliable (obviously)

Plenty I'm forgetting but the above is a start. Insignia's come to mind, 2011 or so but colleagues I have spoken to seem to have strong and opposing opinions..

Get a petrol. There is no reason for you to get a diesel if you're doing long journeys twice a week.

Yeah am certainly open to the idea, somewhat hard to come by though given the proliferation of diesels from 2008 onwards

Is that 8000 with your 3 series? Or 8000 all in? I reckon 3 series worth maybe 4k for an 07

Do you like the 3 series? Could get another one I suppose. Will be older than insignia for same money but you should get a nice 09/10 petrol for same price as 11 insignia. Depends if the newer reg is more important than the car for you at the moment. Wouldn't be for me but each to their own.

    Yes 8,000 all in.

I like the 3 series, but fancy a bit of a change. Its the 5 series little sister in most peoples eyes. Still though, will have a look online to see what 2010 3's are going for.

When I really think about my Mileage, I probably do a bit more than I thought. I reckon 15,000km per year.

Outside of 3 series and Insignia's are there any other choices out there?

Hadn't crossed my mind but have to say looking at that one I'm not too keen on the styling. 1.8 petrol may be a bit heavy on my wallet

They are quite good on fuel for a 1.8 litre petrol and tax on the newer system is 570. Either way you're not going to get great fuel economy from a diesel doing slow city driving either and you don't do enough long distance driving to warrant or benefit from one.
