    Hi all,

Looking for some advice on our planned break to South America in August.
    The plan is:
    • Fly from Dublin to Cusco in Peru in the first week of August (1 night)
    • Spend 2 nights exploring/acclimatizing.
    • Next 4 nights/5 days doing the Salkantay trek to Macchu Pichu.
    • Spend 1 more night in Cusco just relaxing
    • Fly to La Paz in Bolivia
    • Spend 1 day here
    • visit the salt flats (2 nights)
    • Fly to Rurrenabaque to do an Amazon cruise (3 days)
    • Fly home

I'm just wondering firstly if all of the above is doable in the timeline or should we give ourselves more time at certain points?

What should we be booking in advance and what is better to just book when we're there?

Also in terms of the flights from La Paz to Rurrenabaque how are they best booked?

I think that's all. Many thanks

So you spend 1 night in la Paz and 2 nights for salt flats and come back to la Paz for the flight to the Amazon.

Are you travelling by road? It's somewhere in region of 8-10 hours to go from La Paz to Unuyi which is the town close to salt flats so you travel all day, sleep, wake up early in morning and do the sunrise tour and whatever else the rest of day. The next day you get bus back to La Paz and fly out again. It's possible but that is going to be a fairly punishing schedule.

In general I didn't do Salkantay trek. I just got the minivan and walked to Machu Picchu but all the travel places I visited had the Salkantay on offer so I don't think you'll have any issue booking it there a day or 2 in advance. Acclimatisation maybe an issue as Cusco is high enough. While Machu Picchu is not particularly high at 2200 metres I think there is a part of Salkantay that goes to about 4,200 metres if I remember properly.
Booking the salt tour in either La Paz or Unuyi will not be an issue but it will be freaking cold in August so bring warm clothing.
