Renault Megane key card fault

So it's pretty straight forward I insert the key card and the display says key card not recognised. Happened me a few times over the past few days at one point I left the car overnight because I couldn't get it to work. It works most of the time but then it will just refuse to work randomly. Any idea of the cause of this? Is it a whole new key needed or is it just a small repair. The price of those keys is really worrying me.

The key cards are prone to failure but so are the key readers to be honest. KeyFast repair the keys for around €70, they are €250 main dealer. The card readers aren't too expensive but are main dealer only.
