What type of screw should I use for attaching a cctv plate to an external wall?

    Is rawl plugs and wood screws ok?

    You'll want something that won't rust. Stainless steel or galvanised

    If it's a big heavy camera (eg. a PTZ) you may need galvanised coach screws same as for a sat. dish.
    Otherwise as Sleeper12 says.

    Can you just use an expanding anchor instead of plugs and screws?
    I have stainless steel expanding anchors and they grip much better than plastic inserts and screws for any jobs I have done into concrete.

    They are excellent, but are probably overkill, depending on the weight of the camera

    This might help me in another situation - a basketball hoop pulling its screws out of a wall. Any idea on what sizes these rawl bolts start at?

    Id imagine around M6, the threaded piece that is, the anchor size will be bigger
