Silly ads on RTE player

Why does RTE think it is appropriate to run one and half minutes of advertisements upon opening a channel on RTE player? Imagine flicking through channels on TV and it displaying an advertisement before showing the channel. Very frustrating especially for the news

Even more annoying when the ads work perfectly, but the programme doesn't.

One way to pay for the service if using the player and not paying a TV licence.

I load the page and put the kettle on and make a cup of tea and by the time I'm done the ads are over, and I also have a cup of tea. no stress

"Oh, you want to watch RTÉ One? Right now? Is there something starting right now that you want to see? Well, here's two minutes of online ads. And we won't even let you see what you missed until two hours afterwards."

"Oh, it's advertisement time on RTÉ. That's okay. You don't need to see that. You just stare at the blank screen. We have special ads just for you online people."

    **** sake..

Ever try watching something on an American television website? They have about three minutes of ads before the programme starts and then more ads every five minutes. And if you pause or rewind what you're watching you get more ads when you press play again.

Even the advert free BBC had adverts on their player.

RTE Player seems to be the worse for ads. I don't bother with it.

I think most people would accept the need for ads, but not the way they're implemented. Putting ads at the start of a livestream is daft.

Another pet peeve of mine is online players that repeat the same small selection of ads endlessly. Channel 4 are terrible for it, tends to spoil what is otherwise a great service.

For live channels? I haven't seen it.

Would you accept ads when turning on your TV? As in, you turn your TV on at 9PM to watch RTÉ News but you have to watch two minutes of ads before you're allowed to watch it so you miss the first two minutes. It's plain daft.

And then they don't show you ads when the live ads are on!

What? When was that? Lived in England for 10 years and never saw an advert on iPlayer! Even when I access it on my phone here in Ireland I don't see any adverts!

Edit: ITV player, 5 player and All 4 all had adverts but I never saw one on BBC iPlayer

The ads never work for me, play for around 5 seconds and then freeze for the rest of their run time

They had a promo for BBC programming which could be instantly skipped if wanted.

Use the RTE Player XL instead of the standard one.

Use 'uBlock origin' but turn it off until the first commercial starts to play.. then immediately turn it back on... hey presto.. no ads.
