    Hi

About 12 weeks ago I fell off my bike and had a painful shoulder injury and I am still having pains. I went to see a GP, he referred me to the matter to get an x-ray etc. I went to pierce street physio two weeks ago and he told me what exercises to do etc, I have been doing these, but notice no improvement (there is almost constant pain on the outside of my left shoulder blade) Should I go back to the GP or physio ? Anybody know a good physio in Dublin city for cycling related injuries ? I do light weights at gym 3 morning a week to try to get it moving again.
A got an MRI done 2 weeks ago & they said nothing major wrong.
It has improved, but still very weak and a good bit of pain.
Is the best thing to do now to get physio a few times a week ?
    Thanks

Just a personal experience on physio, it can take time to fully recover, 12 weeks is a long time, so i'd be going back to the GP. I'd highly rate pearse st, so wouldn't look for another option. Was the light weights prescribed?

Without giving medical advice, i'd suggest going back to your GP to get advice on course of action.

Was it one appointment with the physio or have you been going on a recurring basis?

It can take a long time to recover from soft tissue damage and the physio would probably like to reasses how you are every few weeks and change the program as required. I spent near 6 months going to the physio every 4-5 weeks while rehabbing a minor tear in my rotator cuff

    Thks for replies.
Yes it was just one physio visit - but I do exercises he gave 2 times a day.

I hope to go to the doctor this Tuesday and see what he says. He prob suggest I do more physio. Which physio did you go to ? did you do exercises for 6 months 2 times daily ? Did you stop running/swimming also for that 6 months ? Thks

At the moment I swim front crawl for 15/20 mins most days.

You don't seem to have ever rested this injury/ joint? Rest = recovery

Apart from that, all the things from the other thread you started on this same injury:

I followed my physios advice under guidance of the consultant both in Santry Sports surgery clinic. I cut down my swimmin from 3 sessions a week to 1 and reduced intensity found no speed work. I then built up slowly starting with a lot of resistance bands just to get the right muscle groups working and slowly adding weight when my physio was happy with it. Each injury is different so it's not one solution for every problem you need to work with your physio.

As mentioned you don't sound like you rested it and maybe are doing too much too soon and need to build into the exercises

Edit: I did also do 2 triathlons in that 6 months but towards the end and didn't push the Swim at all

Sorry I did drop the weights in the last 4/5 weeks - Now I try to swim 15/20 mins most days & do the physios exercises once or twice a day. Thks for advice - appreciate it.

Does the physio know that you're swimming front crawl most days? If not ask him/her about it. I know nothing about sports injuries but seems to me that front-crawl would be hard on an injured shoulder blade. The people I know who made the best recoveries from injury were those who followed the physio's regime faithfully and the people who didn't were having trouble years later!

Different injury but when I broke my arm (surgery and plate inserted) I was told it'd be about 6 months with physiology before I could cycle again. Truth be told, I had to add another year into that and even then it was short, painful spins.

My point being, after an accident your body can take a long time to heal, even when the bruising goes down and you feel alright off the bike, the vibrations and pressure can really cause irritation.
Everything you do, do it slowly.

I did rotator cuff damage to my shoulder in a crash, took more than a year before I could raise my arm past horizontal without pain, and much longer for me to rebuild the strength in that shoulder.

Mod note: Can't give medical advice, if you have a query about an injury speak to your doctor.
