Thinking of buying a used bmw 318d or 320d. Looking at 141 onwards year wise. I was just wondering if there are any common problems with this model of 3 series ? Anything major like the E46 swril flap issue for example ?

I bought a 132 320d m sport back in February. It had 87000 miles on the clock, I'm at 95000 now. No issues so far, great car to drive. I was worried about the timing chain problem on n47 engines before I bought it but apparently engines after 2011 were fine, which is the case with mines. No rattles whatsoever. As long as it has been serviced when needed and looked after it should be problem free.

Unless you are a big mileage driver diesel might not be the best option going forward, ireland will be equalising petrol and diesel prices in the next 4 budgets and more than likely increasing road tax on diesels. At least make sure its an Euro 6 and you dont plan to drive to europe with the city bans coming in for diesels.

If we keep repeating that to our politicians on social media - basically signal them acceptance - they certainly will.

On the F3x, I have the 320d estate since the beginning of the year and its a nice car. I did some homework before I bought and no issues that stand out like timing chain etc that some previous models had trouble with. Its a step down from my old 5 series in terms of finish and interior quality but that was to be expected. Nice clean cockpit, good driver position, nice ride, things work the way you expect them to work. Pretty pokey too and with my annual mileage (a little less than yours) most people here would tell me diesel was the wrong choice, but yet I get 6.3/100kmh. I like my car and have no regrets so far, would buy again.
