Options for renewing licence before 3 months?

Hey all,

Looking for a bit of advice, I'm leaving Ireland soon but my driving license expires in 8 months. I'd really like to get it renewed before I go, as it's valid to use over there. However, it seems like I'm out of luck, because the site says you can only renew 3 months in advance, and it has to be done in-person (so I can't get a friend to post it for me). Is there any leniency to the 3-month rule? Is there any other way around it? It seems like doing a change-of-address, or reporting it damaged or stolen only gets me a replacement with the same expiry date.

There's no way around it.
You can't renew it more then 3 months in advance of expiry date.

Silly as it is, but that's the reality in Ireland.

Surely if you are moving for more than 8 months, you should just swap your Irish license for one from the country you are moving to?

Then if you move back, swap it again.

That's obviously subject to the country you are moving to accepting your Irish license.
