Hi, Im very new to this, so bear with me,!, not sure if there is a thread already for it.
i recently bought a car here that was imported from England which it was changed to Irish registration. Im travelling and moving over to the UK next month, I was planning on selling the car before i left, but if i brought it over with me, and changed over the registration when i get there. Would i be due a refund on the VRT, bearing in mind it was the previous owner and not me who changed it, any advice on this would be great

If VRT was paid initially when it was imported then yes you would be able to claim a VRT refund. You need to make a VRT export inspection appointment with the NCT crowd. You will probably have to provide documents to prove that you are moving abroad.

The NCT handle all things VRT related these days. They will appraise the car and VRT refund value.

If you already exported the car back to UK, then you can't claim VRT back.

To do it, you'd have to make an appointment for VRT export examination before you took the car abroad.

    No need to move abroad.
Only car needs to go abroad and be registered (if exported within EU).

    HI
I bought a Vauxhall Insignia DSIGN NAV CDTI ECO SS 5 Door hatchback last week and when i checked it on the VRT Calculation , it wasnt listed. It has a CO2 value of 98 g/km but all the ones listed are higher. The other ones give me a VRT value of over 3000 euro but I was expecting 2500.
    Am I missing something
    Thanks

In an idle moment I did a VRT calculation on a N.I reg 2002 VW Passat 1.8 T 20 valve estate car. 140,000 miles. €672. Seems steep for a 16 year old car.

Why would you bother importing that, you would probably buy the same car here for peanuts at this stage.

I have no intention of buying it, as I said I just did the exercise out of curiosity.

I think you will find that it doesn't matter what the age or condition is, the VRT will be based on an OMSP of €2000, which is a nonsense, but that's the way the system has been set up.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
