Just curious what others think about this or am I over thinking it. Im looking at getting a new Audi (171) and my local dealer sent me the pricing on a model I was interested in. The problem is this "new" car has nearly 7000KM on the clock and I dont feel like that makes it new. I would barely do that mileage in a year. They priced the car as new for 50K and then applied their "discount" of 5000 off the price but that doesnt sound like a discount to me, it sounds like the actual price of new car with 7000 KM on the clock, meaning no discount. Should I ask for more off or just forget about that deal altogether? Cheers

It's probably not an exceptional deal but it's pretty normal. Calling it new is a bit strange though. It should be called a demo. Probably priced about right as in asking price. Pushing it down by another few thousand then make a it a good deal.
Send a link to the car of it is on a website and we can give our opinions. Good advice generally given out here.

What model is it? What's the price on CBG or the likes? There are plenty of dealers around so don't be afraid to hold off and try somewhere else.

Others might have a better idea, but I think with 172 just around the corner, 171 cars might see a price reduction possibly? I say this with no experience purchasing a new car ;)

That's not a new car as mentioned above.
I collected a new car last year and it had 16kms on the clock, that's new to me.

How many Audi dealers have you gone to to see what price you can get a new 171 for?

    Definitely a demo car.

Is 50k the RRP from the manufacturer?
If it is then you are being done.

That's a demo/Audi Ireland car. Now you can get €5k off some €25k cars but you wouldn't realistically get €5k off a new €50k Audi unless you were doing very well.
It doesn't sound like a particularly good deal to me though. I'd see what else is out there as Audi have tonnes of pre regs it seems.

Yeah they said the car itself RRP 50K but they were giving me a special discount of 5000. This is a PCP btw if that make a difference. That 5K sounds like depreciation to me. I havent shopped around as I got my last car there but might do now.

I'd guess you'd get €3500 off from a new new one.

You should be able to find the manufacturer's RRP online.
All dealers will give you a discount but the size depends on the model (I'd say the range is 5-10%)

The only way you can be sure is to get a price from other dealers.

It's already registered therefore not a new car as you would be 2nd owner.

If the difference between a new car and one with 7k on it was €1500 I know what I'd be doing.

Darn straight. You would probably be factory ordering though, so it could be late in the year by the time you'd get it?

It's clearly an ex demo car, already registered. You'd be the 2nd registered owner? How can that be a "new" car. Either there's some mis-communication or the dealer is being deliberately unscrupulous (to be fair I doubt that this is the case).
A new car is one that is not already registered. It may have a few kms on the clock from being moved around (<100 I would say is acceptable).

A fresh factory order new car generally would take 10-12 weeks to arrive. But unless you're very fussy on exact spec, there's bound to be several "new new" A4's already in the country.

I don't understand what the OPs argument is. Does he want to save 5k or not for a 171 car?

How many lm on the clock should there be before it's not new?

I think the pertinent point is that he's only saving €1,500 for accepting a car with 7,000 on the clock. That seems poor unless it's particularly sought after.

Demo cars are usually the top spec with all the extras so you may not be comparing like with like or did they give you the full spec of each car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Cloudio9

I could be wrong but I'd be thinking this car has probably had a couple of hundred test drives with punters testing the engine and turbo from cold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The op hasn't told us what model etc. It is he is buying but if it is an A6 it is a poor deal. Model at the end of its life.

I'm guessing the dealer wants it down as new to apply whatever new car rate of pcp is available. I would be very careful as I'm guessing the figures will be manipulated to bambooozle as to what you really end up paying.
A lot of these deals are smoke and mirrors really.
You are not getting a new car. That's the bottom line.
