Webmethods Career?

Hi all, I work in IT Support and as part of the project I'm on, they have employed a contractor webmethods developer. He will be working on creating a new integrations project and once the project is up and running, they want me to be the webmethods developer for all new projects. They are hoping that I can shadow him for the next couple of months, but he is off shore and our work day only over laps by 2 hours per day.
I have a good knowledge of how the integrations work over ESB and the Dev has been very helpfully in showing me what he is doing.
My questions is two fold, is webmethods Dev an attractive career? And
Would it take a huge amount of study to get up to speed in 3 months?
