Want to buy a well specced and low mileage Freelander 2.

Have been having a look about and they don't seem to pop up on DoneDeal etc very often.

Year not important but would want sub 50k miles / 80k km.

    Budget is up to 18k

Would like lots of extras, leather heated electric seats, parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, side steps, upgraded stereo etc.

Have I any chance of getting one here? Plenty across the pond. VRT is expensive on them though.

My mechanics father has one, says it's a ball of ****e and warned me to stay well clear, said they only keep it as his dad is attached to it and all the work is done free, I do see it in the garage allot.

Is it the Freelander 2? I know the original had lots of issues.

Know 2 people with them and they are very happy. No major issues, just regular servicing. They have a 2010 and 2012 and have had for 3 years +

Doesn't get a great report on Honest John https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/land-rover/freelander-2-2006/?section=good
High number of automatic transmission, steering rack failures and camshaft failures on 2.2 diesel. Epidemic of rear diff failures.

Freelander 2 is nice when well kitted out. Tinted rear windows and side steps

can see the attraction as find its replacement the Disco. sport bland but doubt you will have any luck here.
assumed you have looked up Cargiant in London ?
Maybe a private sale up North might be worth looking at , would save you a bit over dealer price and cost of going over to mainland UK.

Those faults were true for the early 2007 and 2008 models.Post 2010 Freelander 2 is the most reliable Land Rover model in our experience.

Yeah find the disco sport very bland also. Looks hard to get a decent spec one here. Have been looking in the UK, VRT seems pretty high on them.

I had a paddy spec late model Freelander 2 for a while and the only disappointment for me is that they don't make them any more cause I'd jump on a HSE one now with the leather seats and all the bells and whistles. Sadly they discontinued it and have wedged it in to the heritage group.

Cracking car. We loved it. Unbelievable off-road abilities. It got there, slower than a Defender but it doggedly got through knee deep mud ruts, really really soft tidal sand, ridiculous climbs and descents on wet grass etc... And it pulled plenty of friends cars out of difficulty without a bother.

On surf trips on tiny back roads and the Ring of Kerry in the depth of winter it turned rough roads in to marble, soaked up the bumps and ploughed through small rivers and floods. That, along with a small 2.2 litre engine and all that goes with it, the Freelander 2 is a great car.

On the motorway it morphed in to a regular car except for a bit more sound with the large mirrors and the stuff we had on the roof. But nothing to stop kids falling asleep or watching movies in the back. Not the fastest car off the blocks, but no slouch showing typical, modern mid range diesel turbo boost.

Great car for the person that wants a regular family car that can do proper donkey work if you own boats, need to tow, holiday off season in Ireland on beaches or off the beat.

    Freelander 2 2010 - 2011 - Excellent.

Word of advice: stay away from the Disco Sport. The build quality just isn't there. The Evoque is a better option.

Will be going for a Freelander 2 if any Land Rover.

    CR-V also catching my eye.

I know it's too old and tax steep. But karl goodwin motors has a fully loaded 2008 model.
