Hi all. I'm looking to buy a new tractor soon enough and Im going lookin at a mf690 2wd. What's yer opinion on them? I currently have a 565 nd as all 5 series the cab is rotten but that doesn't bother me. as long as the tractor is mechanically reliable. It wouldn't be doing a lot but I need something to manage silage bales without too much hassle. Any advice. Budget would be 10000 max. Preferably lower! Thanks!

Should have no problem buying a 690 for 10000,

Two examples of 390s for around your budget

Flynns are sound to deal with. Would recomend a 390 over a 690.

A 690 in good condition should be around 5k, at 10k it would want to be immaculate. Below 5k it will probably have large parts of the cab missing.

I'd also be somewhat wary of very rough cabs as it may be a sign of how the tractor was minded in general. But these cabs are very prone to rust.

You will get early 390's for around 10k but these will have the same 12x4 gearbox (3 sticks on the floor) as the 690. And cabs on these may be rough enough at this stage too.

Don't really intend on spending the full 10k on a 690, just happen to be lookin at one today, was wondering what people thought of them?
Saw a few 390 in budget but both were well rattled.
Any other makes people would recommend?

Plenty of good makes out there, but it's all MF's in our stable so I couldn't recommend particular models. But whatever you go for check for parts availability and prices of common parts.

On the 690's if I was looking for one today I'd go for a 2wd unless there is a specific need for 4wd as most likely the front axle of a tractor this age may need some thightning up and overhaul of a 4wd axle could be expensive.

Most 390s I've seen under 10k are very rough. I seen a 390 on donedeal last night for €21k!

690 is a good tractor, but very hard to find one with a good cab.

See a few asking 20k+ but are they getting it? I know Reggie's 398 did but it was in exceptional condition with a brand new loader fitted.

Also has the more desirable Hi line cab.

And the 18x18 40K box, but I have seen lads advertising earlier more basic models for as much too. But that doesn't mean they get anything near it.
