I am planning a trip to the Deep South in the USA, to include Texas, if possible.

Has anyone completed a tour like this? Are there any recommendations regarding particular companies and routes? All suggestions welcome.

Why not hire a car and drive yourself? You'd have a lot more flexibility than with some tour group.

Do keep in mind that whether by tour bus or driving yourself, what you're talking about is a lot of traveling; anywhere from 24-36 solid hours of driving just to hit those cities you mentioned, depending on where in Texas you're starting from, and many hours more if you wanted to add any more destinations (New Orleans, Savannah, etc.). Might want to consider dropping Texas from your list and just sticking to the Southeast; there's plenty to see around there and it would save you many hours of driving/riding.

What sort of things are you interested in? American history? Big cities? Quaint little towns? Beaches? Hiking?

We are interested in cities and beaches and also, the cultural aspects of the area. If Texas is too far from the Deep South, we are prepared to leave this out and focus on Nashville, New Orleans and Memphis and surrounding areas.

While we recognise driving would remove the flexible aspect of the trip, parking and having to remain sober, as well as fatigue deters us from this option.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

The Travel Department had a trip like this one time. Not sure if they still do, but you could look at their website anyway.

American Holidays also have multi trip holidays.

The Travel Department has a good reputation. I took two trips with them to China and all over Egypt, it can be very tiring as they pack it in, but the guides are excellent as is the grub and accommodation.
