    Hi,

essentially I'm definitely going to be doing a masters this September and almost certainly in a business related discipline. I've an undergrad in a completely different area, and a year after finishing it - I just have no passion or desire to work in that area.

Anyway I was looking at this course. Anyone have any experience? Job prospects etc.. I mean I hardly expect to walk straight out of college into a management role without any experience, but what are the prospects like? Has anyone done the course before?

    Hi,

Did you do this masters in the end? How did you find it? I’m going to be doing the business management masters in UL in September which is also designed for non business graduates (I did arts).

Sorry for the late reply, don't really be on here much and only seeing this now.

Yes, I did do it actually.

The transition to business was quite easy, depending on what your undergrad was in, you'll adapt easier. I'd say the maths based subjects were the biggest to get my head around as I haven't done maths since the leaving cert and - and ordinary level at that :pac:

I'm not sure what type of modules you'll be doing, but the course will likely be set up in a way to cater for your non-business background. Modules like marketing and will probably be very broad basic introductions, and aren't overly difficult.

While I'm sure the job prospects will be good (I've still a thesis to do, so will be working on it until August before I go looking for jobs), but there are certain things you won't be able to do, without further studies. You're unlikely to work in finance, or accounting jobs, because the courses really only touch on the very basics of both.

The idea is that you will be a manager, so you need to have an understanding of some of the concepts, especially at board meetings where the finance manager might be discussing thing. At least you'll have an idea what they're talking about. But without further studies, I couldn't imagine working in those fields.

So prepare to work hard, and long because it will probably be an intensive course (mine was anyway). I was working part-time also to fund myself which I don't recommend unless you really need to.
