Beef nuts to calves, nothing to breeding heifers. If feeding heifers at back end or over winter it's just beef nuts, the cheapest I can buy

We normally start young FR, WH and AAx calves with Lakelands 18% pencil (3mm) and move them onto Lakeland 16% grower nut.
We bought some Kiernan/Stewart calf pencils (18%) earlier this year for a few pens and imo the calves took to them better. Unfortunately the local agri stores didn't stock them and due to insurance issues we could not collect them off site from the mill in Granard.

Would they not deliver a pallet with curtain sider or is that gone?

At one stage we fed calves rolled barley and soy mix, they took to eating the barley very easy and it was good value, no minerals mixed in it of course. Aimed to have the P at ~23%
After that get them onto super beef 19% nut.

    Currently using a starter crunch.

Unfortunately they would only deliver a minimum of 4 ton bulk which at the time was over capacity for our requirements at that time.
At the end of day they lost out to Lakelands.

Remember years ago patons delivered a pallet of sheep nuts, does anyone do this anymore?

At what age would you put them on the supper?
Would calf grower or dairy heifer be any better?

Maybe 3 months for the super.

Maybe some of the better educated lads here will know better but maybe the make up of the likes of dairy but wouldn't be as easily digested and absorbed by stock 3-4 months old.

the dairy heifer nut, down in dairygold anyway, is just a higher p nut around 19% whereas a beef nut would be 14 or 16. It wouldn't have the cal mag that a dairy nut for cows would have so would be fine for calves a few months old. Use it here to try to grow frame but if you can keep the grass right they should have enough p from the grass and a lower p nut would do. The dairy heifer nut would help more when on silage
