Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this...

Got a text from "libraries Ireland" stating I signed up for their alerts service (I did in my hole)

The link looks well dodgy so I'm afraid to click on it.

Has anyone had a similar message? Will these bastards drain my credit?

Contact your mobile network (via their support / twitter) and log it with them.

    Just delete the message.

Smash it with a hammer first.

Proabably worth microwaving it in a ziplock bag of spoons as well. Just to be sure like.

Feckin libraries, ruthlessly trying to shove information and knowledge down your throat. Tracking your whereabouts, just so they can sneak up to you and yell some quotations in your face. They'd like nothing better than to put RFID chips in us and classify us under the Dewey Decimal System. There's no escape from them, they're worse than ninjas.

    Animals

Seems it's a legit service that is being rolled out nationwide. Anyone who is a member of a public library is being automatically "opted-in".

True, you may also want to drop the smelted remains down a ravine ideally.

i got them too, dont know how my local library have my number as its different to the one i signed up with.
seems like a scam to me // a simple block sorted it though- 4 texts in an hour last night

A ravine that has direct access to the earths core.

Not a scam. All libraries changed over to a new management system in the last year. The text alert / notices element of that system was only rolled out live in the last week or so.
Texts are sent to anyone who has provided their number to let them know that they have been opted into text notices. If you want to opt out just let your local branch know.

Edit to add, all public libraries. I don't know about academic.

Whoops! Hope they haven't set their phone on fire after smashing it with a hammer, microwaving it in a ziplock bag full of spoons, and dropped The remains down a ravine connected to the earth's core! That would be embarrassing...

    :o

I didn't get one of these texts as I can't read or write and have never opened a book.

    I feel excluded.

Actually science has shown that the only way to be sure is to nuke the phone from orbit.
