I have no wish for the 500 million rubbish channels they offer, I simply want Freesat channels and Sky Sports package.

    Is this possible?

Why not get the most basic package and add Sky Sports?

Because the basic package is €30 per month and this is absolutly worthless to me.

I just checked and cannot beloeve that they are still charging €17 per month for HD! Juesus, what's the justification for this??

Cheers. Just had a quick look at that - it certainly is cheaper than the Sky bundle, works out at €50 per month. It doesn't look like the channels are HD though??

I think Now TV is 720 HD but not 1080 HD

You also might save in only have the sports when you want them to offset the 50 euro charge. Depending on your broadband it may be better for you it's in 720p and not 1080

I would seriously consider subscribing for just Sky Sports if it was offered. The OP is another. We cannot be the only ones.

I have no interest in their packages of repeats or so called documentary channels.

But that's the issue. Sky know that there are lot of people like you and the OP but they also know that a lot of people would drop their Original or Variety packages and just subscribe to Sports if they could. They would loose revenue by offering it.

But by the same token are they not loosing out by not offering it?

Of course. The question for them is which would loose them the most, I'm sure they've done the sums and they know.

Call them up and speak to sales , ask them whats the best they can do.

I recently joined them as a new first time customer , They gave me HD half price, 20 % of broadband and 20% of my total bill at the end of each month.

The more awkward and/or expensive they make it for people to watch what they want then the more likely people are just going to torrent or stream what they want to watch.

When this eventually sinks in with sky then the Netflix of sport can't be too far away.

    Netflix
    Spotify
    Sportsflix

The holy grail. €9.99 each per month. :)

You never know. Netflix has serious monetary backing behind it and they may decide to enter this market, and add a sports element to there package.

You can get it for free with Eir Broadband, which is cheaper still.

I really can't see Netflix entering the sports market, nothwitstanding Amazon's purchase of (non-exclusive I may add, and they need do no production work) rights to Thursday night NFL games, which Twitter had last year. It's just not their business. Recorded content is a whole different ball game from having to produce a live OB, pregame, halftime and post game shows, and have to handle a surge in demand around the time of the event.

As for the OP - Now TV is the cheapest way of watching Sky Sports on TV (although look about for short term deals if you can enter a contract). If you're happy to watch on a mobile phone you can get it even cheaper.

I am not sure that €50 per month for just the Sky Sports channels (i.e. no BT Sport or Eurosport) could be described as cheap. That's 600 a year for a 720p service! And they removed Chromecast support form the app (probably pubs were using it in UK). So to watch it on TV you need to also buy their crappy little box, which is just a Roku. You can't even load their app on your own Roku.

I would love to see Netflix give it a shot a some point, but I agree with you, its not likely in the near future.
