    Hi lads,
I'm going to be keeping a few friesian weanlings (bullocks) over the winter and I was wondering if many lads here would feed them just silage or would ye feed nuts as well? Im not sure if it would be worth it, although the standard advice would be to feed nuts in line with the quality of the silage.
thanks in advance for any opinions.

I would say if you are not prepared to feed up to 2kg per head to freisans for the winter better flog them before winter ,they are a growing animals and need high protein

Why would you squeeze them? Feb born weanlings well done would be looking at their last 100 days on first of June next year. Finished at 380kg carcasses from first of Aug.

    Hi lads .
Finding this thread interesting as I have my fr bull calves that I. Don't know if I will sell in October or over winter till March to sell to grass

Hi Freedom, Well I don't fancy keeping bulls to be honest. Don't have proper facilities for them and don't fancy heading into a field of 20 bulls next summer with a bag of nuts on my back!
Id have good grass so with the bounce they'll get next March heading outside, not sure if ill get the return from additional grain bill,

When calves are cheap, meal is not expensive!

Crimp wheat and a good 14% protein ration. We used to fatten holstein bullocks at 15 months on 3kg of each before we upped cow numbers and didn't have space.

I think you always get it back, you'll get more bang for your buck in the eventual kill out by feeding them right in winter, they are much more efficient in converting feed to weight earlier in life.
