So,hope this isn't too long and rambling...
Son bought a phone a few months ago.dropped it soon after and there's a small crack at the bottom of the screen.Nothing he can't live with.
Now recently the Sim card holder/reader in the phone has failed.Has been sent of to be repaired under warranty.
Have been quoted e 90 to repair the screen, and they won't repair Sim card holder otherwise.Any thoughts?Happy with the screen as it is,but would like the Sim holder repaired.
Also seems like a very high quote.phone repair shop next door could do it for 40,but if they touch it warrenty would be invalidated.

€90 for a screen repair isn't particularly high, what type of phone is it?

With most phones the front facing is lifted off to do a repair, if the damage is at the bottom of the screen it might not be possible to lift it and repair the sim reader without causing further damage so it needs to be replaced.
Perhaps you could ring the repair centre and ask why they want to replace the screen and see is that the reason?

Effectively the warranty is already In validated because of the crack on the screen, repair centres will do anything to get out of carrying out warranty work even if the problem is nothing to do with the damage on the phone.

By paying the 90, you will restore your warranty as the screen will have been replaced by an authorized service centre

It all depends on a number of factors on whether this is worth it, such as the Value of the phone, if the phone is 150-200 new, probably not worth it imo, above that, it may be. Also depends how long you have left in warranty too, if you've only a month or two left, is it likely another problem will develop in that time?

It is also likely, that the authorised repair centre will be using higher quality parts in contrast to the local lad. Have seen it multiple times where someone has got something such as your problem repaired in a local shop, for it to go again in a few months time although you could be lucky.

Just my two cents, worked in the industry for a while and these are the common things most people weighed up.

Also consider whether you have insurance and/or maybe due an upgrade from your provider, the amount of people who were unaware of these things was surprising, might save you the repair bill.
