    Hi,

Can anyone give advice on the Giant Contend 2 as per here: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/ie/contend-2

Would be my first racer.. does it recommend value for money at that pricemark? Budget would be about 700 euro. Anyone recommend?

I bought a previous version almost 4 years ago (Defy 4). I've upgraded most of it since but there's almost 22,000km on the frame, stem, bars, saddle, seat post and still no bother.

It's a comfortable bike and has a very relaxed geometry which makes it that bit more comfortable - especially as a first road bike.

It won't disappoint as a first road bike.

In my opinion, the tyres aren't great so you should budget to change them soon enough.

I just got mine last week! Bike shop recommended new tyres as the Giant ones are made for racing/tracks.

Loving it so far, doing a 20km each way commute into work.

A*se is a bit sore but that's expected and will be fine as I get used to it.

Any other questions let me know, I'd recommend it. My first road bike as well.

That saddle appears very 'nose down' in that pic. It may result in you sliding forward which can cause discomfort.

    Just my 2c.

Ive a 2013 defy 1 for 4 years now, I love it. The geometry is great for me as Ive a bad back.
I've upgraded the wheels to zondas and got fizik saddle as a present, but thats all, bar wear and tear stuff.
I'll upgrade next year with C2W, but this one is still going strong with probably 20k kms + on it, none of it commuting.
I'd deffo buy another giant, especially with the same geometry.

Generally true, but my saddles are like this. A personal thing.

Frame is very good and very stiff. The wheels were awful and broke spokes every few days. Even after the Giant shop replaced them with DT Swiss spokes, they still broke so i just replace them with Aksiums.

I'm afraid this can be only explained by the lack of worksmanship of the shop, or your 2000W bursts of power.

Spokes break only when a/ rusted b/ undertensioned c/fatigued (but this takes time!) Overtensioning will feck the rim first.

Obviously my power so as i've had good experience with that shop :)
