    What does your job entaill?
Does it involve driving or travel?

As an ID, I see no problem with it. Every job Ive been in has asked for one of them.

    No travel travel or driving.
I don't like the idea of them keeping a copy.
How am supposed to know if it's being kept safe. Hardcopy or on the network.
Or if I leave will it be kept etc etc

I presume the passport copy is to verify you're eligible to work here. Not sure about the drivers licence if it's not a driving job

Every job I've ever had has asked to photocopy my passport. Retail included. I'd be a little surprised if a job didn't require this actually. It's to prove identity and elegibility to work and is only a black and white copy anyway. My current job needed that and copies of my degree and qualification too.

Fairly standard, they need to know who you are, it's official ID.

They're bound by data protection act also.

Almost every job requires these as proof of identity.

Yep. It's fairly standard procedure. You are perfectly entitled to ask what happens to your personal records if you leave the company and where/how it will be stored while you remain employed there.

If they don't ask you, and only ask the foreigners, then they could get done for discrimination. So they ask everyone for it.
