I've to call out to a bentone in the next few days. Customer says it runs for 10 mins then lockout. When he resets it it goes again for another 10 and repeat. Anyone come across this before?

more than likely its the coil as its a common component failure and usually as you explained above

True that was my first thought Jim but would it restart perfectly again straight away if it was the coil?

yes ive seen them to do it and run the same length of time

I know what your thinking it should run for a shorter period when hot

I agree with Jim, even though i wouldnt have as much experience as jim on bentone burners,It still wouldnt do any harm to fit the vacuum gauge and pressure gauge on the pump and monitor the burner running before changing the coil

don't really have much experience on them either agusta as we dont see many around our area

but have seen a few doing just as dtp says above but good point from your post above would point out fuel starvation

    Rule out the obvious first.

I have quite a few bentones, but in order on what I change fires.

    Coil
    Transformer
    Photocell
    Box

If boiler always reaches temp before lockout then transformer, as it's locking out at startup.
If it doesn't reach temperature then coil.

Danfoss coils can run perfectly till they warm up and break bad coil.
I replace a lot as all my Geminox boilers have bentones.

Check the cable to the burner too .
If its the 6/7 pin plug in, it's fine.
But if cable has disconnected grey & white wire, then the safety stat is not connected
Loop the live up grey and use the white as live.

    Only some had this cable.
If its just LNE + black for lockout light your fine, some had a spare dormant red wire too.

Wiring diagram under top cover, but early models were in French.

If it's an unpainted aluminum burner, they were designed for Diesel and needs preheater disconnected if on kero.

Coil on these tend to go often in comparison with Riello as they are 240v coils, whereas riello are 27v startup and 3v run coils.

Could be worse, they could be sunvic coils, I nearly replaced them on every service (usually you'd see the external heat damage on them)
