I bought my car in good faith in September 2015. It wasn't till the following year did I notice the AC wasn't working as I never had AC before I wasn't sure so then when it was hot day I put it to the test and no it didn't work. I got car serviced in Sept 2016 and asked for that to be checked also and they said yes we will recheck it might just be gas cylinder. It wasn't done but at the time I did nothing about it as didn't need to use it up until last week again. There they said they cant find the fault and need to keep it for a while this could cost a lot but really do I have to cough up for this. It was never working or does all this come under guarantee or is it covered at all. Any thoughts

Was it from a dealer? Is it brand new? What car is it?
It's a bit late now but of course you can bring the car back and see what they say.

Do you know is the ac clutch engaging? See here on how to check...

If it is engaging the next thing to look at would be the gas in it, have someone check it's at the correct pressure.
If clutch is not engaging the next thing to look at would be the AC relay, you will see this in the fuse box, usually it's the same as used in another component so you might be able to swap the same type from say the horn.
If all that fails you will need to get a specialist to look at it, worst case a new compressor and fitting could be a grand or so, not cheap.

Yes from a dealer, Peugeot 3008 (MPV) . 2011. Apart from this being the problem I love it so nice to drive and comfortable.

Air con has to be used regularly. Otherwise the hoses degrade and the lubricant/refridgerant is lost.

once the op gets it working, just leave the A/C on forever more.
It creates a nicer climate in the car, whether hot or cold.

When i picked up my car the dealer did the usual walk thru of the features and told me to leave it on the whole time.
I was skeptical, thinking that it would lead to higher fuel bills, and that as a dealer he was used to using garage cars and never having to buy fuel.

But, soon enough i realised that it wasn't using much extra fuel. so get it fixed, turn it on, leave it on.

If you get a bottle of gas from halfrauds and fill it up with the engine on then turn it off you will hear the gas leak.
Of bring it to an air con specialist and they have the right gear.
fella in robinhood ind est is supposed to be very good

i've used those A/C regas cylinders from halford before, they are a bit finicky, for the same or not much more you can get a car regassed at the likes of Kwik Fit.

I still have half a gas cylinder and the attachment nossel, i'll never use it.

Well as part of the service I had last September should the gas cylinders not have been checked and cleaned I was told by a colleague it should be part of the services when I asked them about this in the garage they said it wasn't done.

Well if you know a way of finding an AC leak at home let me know.

AC is not usually checked in Ireland during services. You will have to ask for it to be checked.

Here is a list of what is checked at this particular garage. www.atlasautoservice.ie/car-servicing-2

Other garages may do more or may do less.
Most good garages will have a list of what to check and when from the manufacturer, but might just do standard services.

When you have a service done next time, ask for an itemised list. This list will show you what was done.

It doesn't matter if they checked it last year, or when you bought it 2 years ago, you haven't used it so the gas has leaked out. The only thing that you can hope for is that the seals aren't permenatly damaged and the regas will work otherwise it'll be expensive.

Aircon should be used at least weekly or just left on all the time if you have climate control.

People are either too tight or too thick not to use AC.
