As the title suggests - what documents do I need to bring home with me from the dealer in the UK when I collect my car? Just want to make sure I don't need to go chasing them for anything after coming home, and get it registered here asap.

Look at the VRT section in my post here:

The V5 - do not let them send it off to re-register the car. This is the most important. It can take up to 6 weeks for the certificate of permanent export to come from the UK and without that or the V5 you cannot register it here. This is speaking from bitter experience. no matter what the dealer tells you you need to take the full V5 home with you. You can tax it online if you are concerned about driving sans tax in the UK.

Along with the V5 you will need an invoice / receipt, ferry ticket, proof of ID, proof of address an possibly proof of PPSN also with you at your VRT appointment. These must all be in paper form as the VRT office won't print anything for you.

And they need to be original docs, particularly the proof of PPSN. I gave them printouts and they rejected them. Had to go back the following day with an original revenue letter.

Its all listed on the NCT website so read that too.

Thanks for the advice all. That's a good one with the V5 - I'll print out the relevant section on the Revenue website in case they doubt it, hopefully won't be an issue.

    Hi all,

My brother brought his car from the UK and left it here in Ireland for me (Gift). I have his original V5 and we didn't change ownership.

Can you please advise me the steps to register it here in Ireland ?

    Thank you in advance :)

You should get him to write up a receipt for you to say you purchased it from him today. Gift or no gift doesn't matter, as a resident of Ireland you will pay the VRT on it. You then book it in fot VRT appointment at a NCT centre...https://www.ncts.ie/1145

Calculations on how much VRT is payable is here...

Is it ok to keep the V5 with his name on it ? and do i have to send the export part from the v5 to the UK ?
