Which rocker cover gasket brand to get? Anything to avoid, tips, etc?

go for decent after market brand, like Febi, cheap one will just give trouble, get some sensor safe sealant and apply small amount to valve cover before putting the gasket it, it will help hold the gasket in place as you put back cover back and its easy for it to fall out and fold under, especially around the back, don't over tighten the bolts.

I would recommend to use genuine BMW one.
Price difference with aftermarket brands is not that big.
Also don't forget 2 spark plug holes gaskets and 15 rubber grommets for bolts.

Apply high temp sealant to half moon corners both front and back of the engine and where vanos meets the cylinder head.

Not intending to go cheap, not to save a tenner or two on a critical (if simple) engine component :)

Actually, I was also recommended not to go with Febi - for certain components - by a BMW specialist.

It's hard to tell which is the BMW OEM (or rather "OE") brand. After some research I think it's either of Victor Reinz or Elring Klinger depending on what was in stock at the date of manufacture. I've ordered (by phone!) a Victor Reinz kit, so we'll see.
