1" Copper pipe problem

Hi there. I wonder if anyone can help me. I have replaced a hot water cylinder in the house and had to do some replumbing. All went fine except that I had to cut the heating coil supply which looks to be 1" copper and am putting in some new 1" copper. Although the new and old copper pipes look an identical diameter when placed end to end, the instantor 310 coupler will fit the new copper but is just fractionally to small for the older pipe which seems to have a thicker wall. Is this heavy gauge copper and if so can anyone tell me what will join it. Do I need 1 1/4" coupler with a r duvet bush. I'd be most grateful for any advice.

Sounds like the bigger pipe is metric, 28mm.
    You need to pick up a 28mm - 1" 310.
I got caught late on a Friday evening with the same thing and B&Q had metric fittings if you are badly stuck
