    Hi all

Looking for a bike carrier , preferably one that wont need roof bars or a tow bar.

Seasucker bomber has been recommended but I think it might be outside the budget at the moment.

Ive seen imitation sucker typer versions online but dont know would I trust them with my bikes.

Saris bones 3 looks good. anyone using these regularly? How is the car anchor points holding up?

Finally, where would be the best place for prices for the two above or are there better alternatives in that style?

This is purely for occasional use

    Thanks

I have been using the Saris Bones 2 for many years, it is a great carrier and similar in construction to the Saris Bones 3. The car anchor points are made of a softish rubber material, hence affording great grip and will not mark or damange the car paintwork. I have found it to a great carrier, very stable and secure. Prices vary from time to time, I would check a few of the online stores for prices.

I'm in the market for a 3 bike carrier too - for a saloon also!

The saris seems to be leading the way at the moment in regards price (£135 on amazon) and build but I just read on their site that it has a "2 bike load limit" for the 3 bike carrier on my car... back to square one!

I know you said that you want one that doesn't require a tow bar, but in my experience the tow bar types are by far the best, especially if carrying more than one bike. They are safe, secure, and the bike can be locked onto them. They also make it so much easier to access the car boot if you need to (vital if you are doing tris imho).

Seasuckers seem very solid and reliable from my experience. I regularly go on spins where we load the bikes on vans or on a car and the guy who has the seasuckers has never had a problem. Good solution that would work on any type of car.

    Thanks lads.

I was leaning towards the Saris Bones but the SeaSucker bomber looks like a great performer.

I'll try and shop around as my heart is saying SeaSucker as it will work on any car but my pocket is saying Saris. :o

Prices of seasuckers are gone through the roof. You're looking at nearly 500 quid.

If you can get over the tow bar bias, there's no doubt but they're the best and most convenient, safe and secure way to carry bikes.

    (in my opinion)

Have a look at Thule carriers. Can be pricey but are very sturdy.

Have a saris bones 3 which is very good on a saloon.
I can have it on and secure in about 3 minutes and off in less than 1!
Have carried two bikes on it easily have not tried three though.
Very well engineered and even looks great when no bikes are on it. I like the fact that it will fit a hatch back also.

Seems to be the cheapest place to buy a seasucker, unless anyone knows different? https://www.fitstore24.com/de/seasucker-bomber-bike-rack-3-bike

i have the saris 3 bike model and it is easy to fit and very solid. have put 2 and 3 bikes on it and no issue at all. i just do a quick check every 60km - that straps are tight - it is more a precaution - really good rack and delighted with it

    Cheers lads.

I ended up going with the Saris Super Bones 3.

The SeaSucker was just too expensive at the moment and I definitely won't be putting a tow hitch on my car at the moment with so the Saris ticks all the boxes.

Thanks for all the help, I'm sure it will help others too :)
