Social Care Degree (Level 8)

Hi everyone, i am just here looking for advice, i hope this is the right thread for this topic.

I am currently just finished a social care level 5 course, and have recieved a certificate, I have been thinking of doing a level 8 now in social care, as a level 5 is not a high enough qualification for most jobs. i am very reluctant about going back to college to study social care however, as i feel there might not be many jobs available after graduating, and i heard the pay isnt great either.

Can anyone give me advice who has done a level 8 social care or know someone who has done it, should i go for it. I want to work with homeless, addicts or people with autism etc.

My main concern is that im 29 now, and I want to make sure im making the right decision, i want to be able to earn a good income after finishing level 8, but i dont know if there is enough work in the area and if pay is good or not?

Nobody can guarantee that doing a particular degree will lead to a job with a 'good income' how do you define what a good income is.

Ireland has an ageing population and the population is growing so in general there should be a lot of opportunities in any sort of care work.

thanks dar100, alot of people are telling me there is not much money in the area of social care, but i feel its what i want to do, so as long as the money isnt too bad ill be happy, salary circa 33.000? how much would that be hourly?

thanks very much for the reply loveinapril. what personality type or characteristics do you feel you need to work with the homeless? i feel i can relate to homeless people, but i feel i might be to timid at times and not too outgoing, i feel i can push myself out of my comfort zone and should be able for it though, glad to hear you are making very good money! i cant think of anything else i would like to do besides social care, but have not enough experience to see whether i would really like it or not
