Luas Leap Card ticket machine gave error and retained money

    Hi,

I tried topping up a leap card over the weekend on a couple of machines and got the error message:

"No graphical elements found for phase, sequence 2, mask 1."

The first machine was in St Stephens Green and after a minute or so of displaying the message appeared to timeout and returned the money.

I then tried to top up the leap card again when getting off the tram. I got the same error, but this time the machine did not timeout/reset after about 5+ minutes. At that stage I had to go.

I have been on the phone to Luas Customer Service and left a voice message, as they appear to only work office hours. I am still waiting for a reply.

Sounds like a software update gone wrong.

I have googled the error and it not coming up with any results, so appears proprietary.
There should be various watchdog timers in the system to refund the money in the event of an error, which is what appeared to happen with the 1st machine I tried.

Did it ask for your contribution in BitCoin,by any chance ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Something similar happened me before. I shoved my Leap card into the note slot and it returned the money.

They often just return the money and you shove it back in again.

I eventually got a call from them today and they said it was a known problem and is being looked into. They also said the machines reset after 10 minutes if they have an error.
Which seems very long time for watchdog timer, if you have fault mid transaction.

Looking at the error message ("phase , sequence 2, mask 1") they may run as a State Machine, as there is space after the word 'phase' for a value. Probably in some trendy language where all data types are strings. Defeating one of the points of using a state machine in an embedded, high reliability, real time systems!
