Tissot maintenance costs

Thinking of purchasing a Tissot watch soon and I just like to know how much maintenance costs and how often?
Salesman in a shop mention if would have to be shipped off even for a battery replacement and takes three weeks every few years.

Seems long time to me to be without a watch especially if your wearing it every day

If you hang around here long enough, that problem will be easily fixed .

My suggestion would be to go with an automatic watch instead of quartz/battery... it should go years without a service and Tissot make some really nice examples...

If you're not too bothered with water resistance, than 10-15 quid in most jewellers will be all it costs. A mechanical might not need servicing as regularly, but I'd be surprised if one service wasn't several multiples of getting a battery changed.

Except when the mechanical does require a service the costs will be many multiples of the quartz movement. Never mind that a battery replacement service can usually be found more locally. It's far easier a job to do. In car terms the difference between swapping out a battery and an engine rebuild And service costs for mechanicals from mainstream brands are going one way and that's up*.

TBH unless someone is into watches as a hobby, I would not recommend mechanical watches as a good prospect. They're simply more expensive to buy and own and require more care.






*I suspect that if anything kills the renaissance of the mechanical watch as luxury/authentic, it'll be the brands price gouging at point of sale, but especially when it comes to servicing.

There are places around where you get the battery replaced + reseal + pressure test with guarantee while-you-wait too. If battery life is an issue there are plenty of solar/kinetic quartz watches around now which should last at least 10 years or more before they need any attention.

Even as an enthusiast I find myself put off buying another expensive mechanical watch by the cost of servicing through the ADs or watch brand repair centers, and the difficulty in finding good value local alternatives. TBH I am more drawn towards something like a Seiko Astron or maybe a G-Shock MTG for my next significant purchase.

If you need the battery replaced under warranty, then it should be sent away, but once it goes out of warranty then just go to any decent place that will replace the battery, I doubt anyone on here sends away watches just for a battery change.

Other then a new battery every few years, (the length the battery will last depends on watch features and size, but an average is three years) there's no maintenance on a quartz other than your own reasonable care. I think the cost I paid last time for a five year guarantee watch battery in one of the main chains doing that work was €25 - with maybe an extra ten to get the water resistance seal checked - and that would be the dearest to expect really.
