A well known car dealer in Cork died in an accident today, some of his cars featured on this thread I think.

Thoughts with his wife and daughter.

Terrible. Surely the driver of the car will be charged as that is a wide road with plenty of time to view whats in front of you not like on a back road and come around a bend at 80km/h and suddenly you spot a cyclist with no time to react.

Without prejudging any investigation, from the pictures published of where the collision occurred it would appear to be alleged driver error.

I've seen some people commenting on Facebook that there was a blue sheet placed over him and the bicycle was visible and badly damaged.

That is a 120km/h stretch even when approaching the slip road.

Not the first death of a cyclist there but certainly a bit more high profile.

    Sad story indeed.

I did that route on a moto-scooter limited to 65kmh. Once and it was enough for me... It was horrible experience. I really don't know how crazy you would have to be to do it on a bicycle...

I come across it regularly with work.

The amount of people who just pull across with no indication or even checking the mirrors is crazy.

Now they might check them at a glance but their heads don't move.

Is that a dual carriageway or motorway?

    RIP

Im not making any assumptions behind this tragic incident but I firmly believe that every motorist should be forced to spend time on a bycicle to see what it is like for them. So many drivers not giving a crap about anyone else on the road apart from themselves. Some motorists think it's fine to pass at speed close to a cyclist or take chances in terms of overtaking. Regardless of who is in the right, there is usually only one winner!

I have the exact same problem every day with car drivers when I'm in my truck or even when I was a bus driver.

It's all about beating the slower moving vehicle/object in front.

As a cyclist (also a motorist but primarily a cyclist) this is an awful situation. I believe that's 8 now this year that have been laid to rest in comparison to 10 for the whole of last year. A shameful statistic. RIP to the man and condolences to his family. Also a thread on this in the cycling forum.

not an ideal place for a cyclist but perfectly legal of course as it isn't a Motorway.

What a tragedy, my sympathy to all concerned

Not sure was it just the 1 daughter he had or other children also.

Passed there in the last hour, unsurprisingly the place was locked up.

Not sure about the dealerships of his 2 brothers around the corner on Tramore road.

I don't think he had the same reputation as his father and brothers do with cars.
