Software for managing photos

I've got 1000s of pictures stored on my PC. I used to have some software to categorise and assist searching of photos on my PC but I can't remember the name of it. I was going to stick Picasa on but that's discontinued. Does anybody have any reccomendations for any current Windows applications that are good for managing…

Or if you're on google have a look at google photos.
Whichever you go for though please ensure you've backups.
