Tanzania: best way to arrange??

    Hey there,

Looking at heading to Tanzania toward the end of the year...take in a week of safari and then Zanzibar.

Just been chatting to a few travel agents around town and everything seems expensive for what it is. A lot of the accommodation seemed a bit charcterless and large scale.

We have previously been on safari in Kruger Park and enjoyed self drive and some of the more rustic camps so we don't need all the bells and whistles. And also managed to spend half the money compared to these Tanzania quotes.

We aren't averse to doing lots of planning ourselves but are struggling to get past expensive package tours.

Any hints or tips or recommended suppliers from people who have done it before?

    Thanks...

    Trailfinders Dawson Street.

Give them your wants and they will sort it out for you. I have no connection, but they will tailor anything for you.

Private driver. Private guide, accommodation, flights and so on. Found them excellent and you get what you pay for. But they take that into account too. Small budget, big budget, no worries.

Thanks, they were one of the travel agents that we talked to in town. We have used them before and they are fine, but we are just underwhelmed at their Tanzania offering.

Looking at trying to arrange with local operators in Tanzania to improve the options.

Would you consider doing an overland truck trip (camping at night). We had the best time doing this, meant it was really affordable as well. Started in Kenya - Went to Masai Mara, Nguru Crater, Serengeti and then finished up with Zanzibar. Great 2 week trip. We went with Acacia Africa but there are lots of overland companies
