Trouble with English bought car

I bought a car in England from a trader. After 6 weeks with no issues, the temp gauge started rising. Mechanic has gone through everything from sensors, stat, pumps and radiator. Car was still overheating and getting air locked from what I was told. Skimming the head didn't work, neither did bypassing the egr.
Last resort now is getting a second hand engine block to hopefully resolve. The mechanic im using is very good so no issue on this side.

I have only contacted the uk garage since going down the road of changing the engine. Car is off the road for 10 weeks now. I was willing to foot the costs, put it down to bad luck.
Obviously the uk garage have said they cant help as the 1 month warranty is up...

Looking at the trading standards website it suggests the buyer has 6 months to lodge a claim. Also claiming back from credit card company is mentioned on the TS website.

Im not expecting much/ if any comeback but it's worth a shot.
Has anybody here successfully claimed back some costs from a uk garage?

    Cheers!

Did you run a car history check on the car prior to purchase? If you have not I would run one now to see if perhaps the car was involved in a serious crash and has been repaired improperly and you could use that to argue your case more.

At this point, running a check would be a complete waste of time. That should have been done prior to purchase. Caveat emptor..buyer beware..

I did all the usual checks, the car hasn't been crashed.

I would assume since you've had work done on it by your mechanic. That will make it impossible for the other garage to stand over the car now.

Also if a car only had a month warranty it suggests a garage isn't confident of the car either, and/or the cost exceeds any profit they make on it.

The time to go back to them was before the mechanic did any significant work on it no?

I drove 1000+ miles without issue with no issue and so far the mechanic has found nothing to suggest a quick fix. When the engine comes out he might find something.

That's fair enough. When it overheated I was thinking worst case would be a new water pump.

7 year old car, 1 month warranty offered, 6 weeks and 1000+ miles before fault shows. I see no way the dealer can be compelled to pay for the repairs.

Even before you had your mechanic at it you wouldn't have had much standing for a claim, now that he has done god knows what to it there is no chance.

Seeing as you still don't know what's wrong with it you can't even suggest the dealer sold it with a known fault, the high mileage you have put on it would suggest not.

I would suggest you go get someone else to diagnose the fault before forking out for a new engine.

You are absolutely bananas obsessed about car history reports and they seem to be your immediate reply to everything. It's akin to a doctor prescribing an apple to every patient regardless of their symptoms

In this case op has an issue with the engine! (Please read the op (general request to you)) which his mechanic has basically stripped so if it was crashed it would be obvious.

You seem very reasonable and I'm sorry for your experience.
In my experience, most small dealers aren't mechanics, and are just flipping cars bought at auction.
Im not sure about your statutory rights. I'd imagine they'd be similar to here.

    I hope not!

When i said ecu bypass above, it should have been egr bypass
